Membership terms
Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 13 October 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to online tuition and related services provided by Leon Barkley, a sole trader trading as Maths With Leon.
For the purposes of these terms, “parent” means the parent or guardian purchasing tuition, “student” means the child receiving tuition, and “Maths With Leon”, “we”, “us” or “I” means Leon Barkley trading as Maths With Leon.
By purchasing a membership, the parent agrees to these Terms & Conditions.
1. The Maths With Leon membership
The Maths With Leon group tuition membership provides online Maths tuition and supporting resources through five connected elements:
- GCSE Gap Finder: an initial diagnostic identifying strengths and gaps, used to shape a Personal Progress Path with teaching and practice priorities.
- Live Mastery Sessions: four 60-minute live online group tuition sessions each month, capped at eight pupils. Pupil cameras remain off. Pupils can send answers, questions and photographs of their working privately to Leon and can use their microphone to ask questions if they wish.
- 20-Minute Maths Method: short, interactive practice and assessment questions between sessions, reinforcing topics taught, checking understanding and recording results to inform future support.
- Catch-Up & Replay Vault: private member access to recordings of live sessions for revisiting explanations and catching up.
- Progress Proof + Parent Updates: a monthly update covering topics taught, between-session assessment results, strengths, skills requiring further development and recommended priorities.
Teaching dates will be published in advance. Membership includes four live sessions each month. Sessions do not necessarily take place in every calendar week, and a month containing five occurrences of the usual teaching day does not automatically include a fifth live session.
2. Membership price and recurring payments
The founding membership costs £59 per month.
Payment is taken automatically each month using the payment method provided through Stripe.
The membership continues on a monthly recurring basis until cancelled.
There is no minimum contractual term unless expressly stated otherwise when joining.
3. Founding-member price
Students joining at the founding-member rate of £59 per month will retain that rate while their membership remains continuously active.
If a parent voluntarily cancels the membership and later wishes to rejoin, the price available at the time of rejoining will apply.
Where Maths With Leon introduces an official pause to the programme, such as a planned summer pause, the student’s founding-member rate will be preserved when membership resumes.
4. Teaching timetable and school holidays
Maths With Leon operates a published teaching timetable.
Because the membership provides four live sessions each month rather than one session in every calendar week, teaching dates may be arranged around school holidays, bank holidays and other planned breaks.
Maths With Leon may publish a different timetable during school holiday periods, including summer.
Any planned closure, programme pause or alternative summer arrangement will be communicated to parents in advance.
5. Group allocation and group changes
Maths With Leon is a small-group tuition service. Group sizes may vary as students join, leave or move between levels.
Students will be placed into a group considered suitable for their year group, current level and learning needs.
Where student numbers or learning needs make it appropriate, Maths With Leon may:
- combine groups;
- move a student to another suitable group;
- change the regular session time;
- temporarily rearrange a timetable; or
- discontinue a group where it is no longer practical to operate.
Reasonable notice will be given wherever possible.
If no suitable alternative can be offered following a change initiated by Maths With Leon, the parent may cancel the membership and any appropriate unused prepaid tuition will be credited or refunded.
Where a student’s learning needs change, Maths With Leon may recommend moving the student to another group, for example between Foundation and Higher-tier tuition. Any proposed change will be discussed with the parent.
6. Student attendance and missed lessons
Parents are responsible for ensuring that students attend their scheduled sessions.
If a student misses a scheduled lesson for any reason, including illness, holidays, school activities or other commitments, no refund or credit will normally be provided.
Where a recording and supporting resources are available, these may be provided so that the student can catch up independently.
A student arriving late will still finish at the scheduled end time of the group session.
7. Lessons rearranged or cancelled by Maths With Leon
If Maths With Leon cannot deliver a scheduled session, reasonable efforts will be made to rearrange it.
Where a replacement session is offered but the student cannot reasonably attend the alternative date or time, Maths With Leon will seek to provide an appropriate alternative arrangement or account credit.
If a cancelled session cannot reasonably be rearranged or replaced, a proportionate credit will be applied to the student’s account.
For the £59 founding membership, one of the four monthly live sessions represents £14.75 of the monthly membership fee for the purpose of calculating such a credit.
8. Technology requirements and technical problems
Online tuition requires a suitable internet connection and device capable of accessing the relevant video-conferencing platform.
Parents are responsible for ensuring the student has suitable equipment, internet access and an appropriate environment in which to participate.
Where a student is unable to attend or participate because of problems with their own device, internet connection or software, this will normally be treated as a missed lesson and no refund or credit will be due.
Where a significant technical failure on the part of Maths With Leon prevents a session from being delivered, the session will be rearranged or an appropriate credit provided.
9. Payment failures
If a recurring payment fails, Stripe may automatically retry the payment and contact the parent to update their payment method.
A short grace period may be provided while payment recovery is attempted.
If payment remains outstanding after the recovery period, access to tuition and membership resources may be suspended and the subscription may be cancelled.
Any outstanding sums remain payable for services already supplied.
10. Cancelling the monthly membership
Parents may cancel their recurring membership through the Stripe customer portal or by emailing hello@mathswithleon.co.uk before the next renewal payment is due. There is no minimum term or extended notice period for the monthly founding membership.
Unless the parent exercises a statutory cancellation right, cancellation stops the next renewal and takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period. The student retains access to membership services until the end of that period.
No partial refund is normally provided simply because a student chooses not to use the remaining services within a paid billing period. This does not affect the parent’s statutory cancellation rights or rights where services are not supplied as agreed.
11. Your 14-day cancellation right
Where a parent purchases tuition online, they normally have the right to cancel without giving a reason within 14 days after the day the contract is entered into.
To exercise this right, email hello@mathswithleon.co.uk with a clear statement that you wish to cancel. Sending your cancellation before the period expires is sufficient.
If tuition is to begin before the cancellation period ends, Maths With Leon will obtain the parent’s express request before starting. The request will be recorded and confirmed in a form the parent can save:
I request that Maths With Leon begins providing tuition during my 14-day cancellation period. I understand that, if I cancel during that period after tuition has begun, I may have to pay a proportionate amount for the services supplied up to the time I communicate my cancellation.
If the parent cancels during that period, any charge for services already supplied will be proportionate to what was provided and will apply only where the required cancellation information was given and the service began in response to the parent’s express request. Where these requirements were not met, the parent will not be charged for services supplied during the cancellation period.
Any refund due following statutory cancellation will be made within 14 days of Maths With Leon being informed of the cancellation, using the original payment method unless otherwise agreed and without a refund fee.
Starting tuition does not by itself remove the parent’s 14-day cancellation right. Nothing in these terms limits the parent’s statutory consumer rights.
12. Behaviour during lessons
Students are expected to behave respectfully towards Maths With Leon and other students.
Disruptive, abusive, discriminatory, threatening or otherwise inappropriate behaviour will not be accepted.
Where appropriate, concerns will normally be discussed with the parent first.
In serious or repeated cases, Maths With Leon may suspend or terminate a student’s membership.
Where Maths With Leon ends membership for serious misconduct, any refund or credit will be considered fairly in light of the circumstances and services already provided.
13. Lesson recordings
Some online sessions may be recorded for educational purposes, including enabling students to review lessons they have attended or catch up where appropriate.
Parents will be informed where sessions are routinely recorded.
Recordings are provided solely for the personal educational use of authorised Maths With Leon students and must not be downloaded, copied, shared, published or redistributed without permission.
Students and parents must not independently record live sessions without prior permission.
Where recordings include other students, access will be managed with appropriate regard to privacy and safeguarding.
14. Learning resources and intellectual property
Worksheets, videos, recordings, revision materials, teaching resources and other content supplied by Maths With Leon remain the intellectual property of Maths With Leon or the relevant rights holder.
Resources are supplied for the personal educational use of the enrolled student.
They must not be:
- shared publicly;
- uploaded to social media;
- resold;
- distributed to other students or tutors; or
- reproduced commercially,
without prior written permission.
15. Educational progress and results
Maths With Leon will provide tuition with reasonable care and skill.
If a parent raises concerns about their child’s understanding, confidence, participation or progress, Maths With Leon will review those concerns and discuss appropriate next steps. These may include adjusting practice, changing support strategies or considering a more suitable group. This commitment does not include unlimited one-to-one tuition, additional free live sessions or a guarantee of a particular grade or level of improvement.
Educational progress depends on factors including attendance, engagement, independent practice, previous knowledge and examination performance. Maths With Leon does not guarantee any particular grade, examination result or level of improvement.
16. Parent responsibilities
The parent is responsible for:
- providing accurate information about the student where relevant;
- ensuring the student attends the agreed sessions;
- ensuring the student has suitable technology and internet access;
- informing Maths With Leon of relevant changes that may affect tuition;
- maintaining an up-to-date payment method; and
- supporting appropriate behaviour during online lessons.
The parent purchasing the membership is the contracting customer and primary billing contact.
17. Communication with students
Maths With Leon will use appropriate communication channels when communicating with students.
Where appropriate, communications regarding attendance, billing, scheduling, progress or other administrative matters will be directed to the parent or guardian.
Maths With Leon may introduce additional safeguarding and communication procedures as the programme develops.
18. Changes to the service
Maths With Leon may make reasonable changes to the structure, delivery method, teaching platform, resources or timetable where necessary to improve or operate the service.
Any material change that significantly affects what a parent has purchased will be communicated in advance wherever reasonably possible.
These terms do not permit Maths With Leon to remove or materially reduce core paid services without providing an appropriate remedy.
19. Changes to pricing
The £59 founding-member price will remain available to founding members while their membership remains continuously active, subject to these terms.
Future students may join at a different price.
If Maths With Leon ever proposes a change that affects an existing student’s agreed price, the parent will be given reasonable notice and any applicable consumer rights will continue to apply.
20. Ending a membership by Maths With Leon
Maths With Leon may end or suspend a membership where there is a reasonable basis to do so, including:
- repeated non-payment;
- serious or persistent inappropriate behaviour;
- misuse or redistribution of membership content;
- safeguarding concerns; or
- circumstances which make continued provision of the service impractical.
Where reasonably possible, the parent will be contacted before membership is ended.
Any refund or credit due will be determined fairly based on the circumstances and any services already supplied.
21. Privacy and personal information
Maths With Leon processes personal information relating to parents and students in order to provide tuition, manage payments, communicate with families and administer the service.
Further information about how personal data is used will be set out in the Maths With Leon Privacy Policy.
22. Complaints
If a parent has a concern about tuition or the service provided, they should contact Maths With Leon in the first instance so that the matter can be investigated and, where possible, resolved promptly.
